The Museum of Dresden Romanticism is located at the former residence of the painter Gerhard von Kügelgen, who lived with his family in Dresden from 1808 to 1820. Since 1981, a museum with period-style furniture has been set up to commemorate the outstanding importance of Dresden in the age of romanticism. The family Kügelgen and its prominent guests such as writers Friedrich Schlegel and Ludwig Tieck, painters such as Philipp Otto Runge and Carl Gustav Carus and composer Carl Maria von Weber are represented in nine themed rooms.
