Dresden Zoo first opened in 1861 making it Germany's fourth oldest zoo. The zoo is located on the southern edge of the Great Garden and houses more than 1,700 animals from over 270 species.
Over the last few years the zoo has modernize and enlarged many of its animal enclosures giving both animals and visitors a better experience. For a special highlight check out our African animals and the koalas.
The zoo is served on its southern side by tram lines 9 and 13 and on the north side is the Zoo train station part of the minimum gauge steam railway line that goes through the Great garden.
